Ceremonies to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in various locations around the country

As in previous years, ESTRADA VIVA - League Against Road Trauma - will host on Sunday ceremonies to commemorate the World Day in various locations:

The central ceremony, where the various member organizations of ESTRADA VIVA will gather, will be held this year in Sintra (near Lisbon), in collaboration with the Municipality of Sintra and support of Liberty Seguros Portugal.

SINTRA

14:30 - Gathering near the Sintra Town Hall

14.45 - Slow walk towards Valencia Palace, accompanied by a musical band

15.15 - Ceremony Commemorating the International Day of Remembrance

* Inauguration of a Memorial in Honour of Road Victims - Participants will have the opportunity to write words for their lost relatives and friends or leave a memento (photo, poem, letter, etc.) on a bulletin board available at the entrance of the Palace. All materials placed there will be stored at the headquarters of the Association "Nossa Âncora" until the memorial is concluded.

One minute's silence in memory of all those killed on Portuguese roads (in the same location). Other actions are still being scheduled.

* 16.15 - Formal session at the Nau Room of Valencia Palace, attended by the Mayor of Sintra, representatives of Estrada Viva - League Against Road Trauma, and official representatives of the national government.

17.30 - Closing of the celebration.

VISEU

The Grupo de Alerta para a Segurança (GAS) will remember the victims of road crashes with a silent march at 14:30 from the Pavilion Multiusos to Rossio, in downtown Viseu, where a declaration will be read and presented to the Mayor of Viseu and to the city's Prefect.

VILA REAL

11.30 - The Association of Users of IP4 (AUIP4) will place a crown of flowers at the local Memorial of Remembrance of the victims of road crashes in the district of Vila Real, at the Roundabout leading to the IP4 road.

ÉVORA

GARE - Association for Promoting a Culture of Road Safety, on behalf of ESTRADA VIVA - League Against Road Trauma, will gather families of road victims and local officials in the WDOR ceremony.

10.30 - Gathering at Giraldo Square

11.00 - Silent march in remembrance of road victims

* Departure from Giraldo's Square, through Rua Serpa Pinto, Avenida de Lisboa, Av Tilio Espanca, until the Remembrance Park

12.00 - gathering in the Remembrance Park

* Deposition of mememtos at the memorial erected in 2004.

* Music and poetry programme

* Release/Flyover of bands of pigeons

Closing of the celebration.
